Adelaide Kite Festival

The Adelaide International Kite Festival is held each Easter (Saturday, Sunday and Monday) in Adelaide.  At the time of writing this blog post, the starting time was not available, however in 2014 it started at 11am.  There is just time for you to have a quick look at this colourful event if you go to Semaphore Beach on one of those days.

Make sure you’re back at The Gardens Recreation Centre in time for the start of dancing!

Over 500 Convention Registrations!

Our Convention registration count has broken through the 500 barrier! This is a really great outcome so far, and we still have 6 months to go. Many thanks to Jan and Don Stephens (Registrations Coordinator and Treasurer respectively) for the many hours of work involved in managing all these registrations.

Early Bird Registrations close 31st Dec

Remember that our Early Bird registration price is only available until 31st December. If you can dance to at least Mainstream level and haven’t registered yet, why not join us at this great event. Imagine dancing in the same hall as 500 other people, to many different callers and cuers - we have 55 registered so far.

We’ve published a draft programme on our website - this gives an outline of what dance sessions there will be - it’s not finalised yet but it will give you an idea of how much dancing we are planning. It also includes a list of meetings that are held at National Conventions. This includes a Dancers’ General Meeting which you may find interesting to attend.

Stall Holders Registrations close 31st Jan

Are you considering having a stall at our convention next year? If you have a craft or hobby, we are still looking for people who’d like to run a stall. There is information for stall holders on our registration form, and also on our website under the FAQs menu. We’ve also just launched our Stall Holder Advertising web page - once you’ve registered you too can advertise there free of charge by sending us some information and photos of what you are selling.

How many callers and cuers do you think have registered so far for our Convention next year? More than 40! That’s a very good number to have at this stage, and we anticipate more will register over the coming months. Quite a few of them have sent a photo and profile. Have a look at our website to see who they are and to read about them.

Our Early Bird Ticket price is currently available until the end of this year. Your ticket covers all dance sessions spread over 5 days, and at $125 it is certainly very good value for what will be an unforgettable experience dancing to so many great callers and cuers, and meeting and dancing with so many dancers from all over Australia and even some from overseas. Our draft programme will soon appear on our website, and you’ll be able to see just how much dancing we are fitting into a long Easter weekend next year.

The Dressed Set Parade at a National Convention is a magical experience, both for those in a dressed set and for those watching. We have 12 dressed sets registered to date and no doubt there will be quite a few more by next Easter.

Remember the polo tops we mentioned in last month’s Round Up? The information of how to purchase one of these, together with a photo showing what they look like, is on our website. Do let us know if you’d like one of these stylish tops.

Did you buy a ticket in the People’s Choice Community Lottery this year? If you did, we wish you the best of luck! The draw will take place at People’s Choice Credit Union, 60 Light Square, Adelaide, on Tuesday 2nd September. We’ll put a link on our website to the lottery results. Hope you are a winner!
